How to plan a photo session?

IDEA

  The most important thing is to decide on the idea of a photo shoot.  After it will be possible to write a shooting script, choose a place, hairstyle, clothes, and props.

  To decide on the idea of a photoshoot, answer the following questions:

Why do I need photos? For example: for yourself, social networking, family album, printable, etc.
• What / How do I want to be in photographs? What traits do I want to highlight? For example, femininity/masculinity, professionalism, sexuality, etc.
What kind of photos do I want to get at the exit? Save photos you like (Pinterest, Instagram) and send them to me in advance (up to 10 pieces).

Remember that a new story is created during a photo session and I can only rely on your examples.

By answering these questions, you will be able to determine the idea and mood of the photoshoot.

Look at the saved photos and come up with a short title for your photo story, for example: "Young family on a walk in the park", "Cherry blossom at sunset", "Romantic evening by candlelight", "Gentle morning at the hotel", etc.

PLACE

After you have decided on the idea of a photoshoot, think about where you would like to take it.

What is the best place to implement your idea?

A photo session is possible:

in a city/city park or outside the city (including in the center of Washinghton DC, Alexandria VA, Bethesda MD, Baltimore MD,);

in a photo studio or apartment (the photo studio is booked by you yourself, after confirming the shooting date);

in the hotel room (you make the reservation yourself, after confirming the shooting date);

in your home (if there is enough natural light in the room).
Before booking a studio, send me links to the options you like! I will tell you which studio is best for you.

Seasonal photo sessions (cherry blossom, poppy blossom, leaf fall, etc.) are held in a city park or near DC, and Christmas photo sessions - in the city / at a fair, Christmas Tree Farm or in a photo studio.
Family, Love Story, and pregnancy photo session in good weather take place in the city or in the park.
A boudoir / nude photoshoot is usually held in a beautiful hotel room or apartment.
In summer, when weather is especially good, I recommend using the Beach Photo Walk package.
If you do not know which specific location is best for your idea, write to me for a consultation.

SCENARIO

Once you've decided on the idea and location, you can write a short shooting script. This step is optional, but as a photographer with experience in client photography, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get interesting and vivid shots, as well as to make the most of their time.

It is especially important to consider activities for shooting with a child! Think about the kind of story you want to tell in your photos, based on your idea.

 For example Scenario 1. "Young family for a walk in the park", photo session time - 2 hours:

1. Meeting with a photographer in the park.
2. A small sports game for the whole family (throw a ball/play table tennis/start frisbee).
3. We sit down to rest on a bench/bedspread, discuss what we will do at home in the evening.
4. We take out a children's book or a small game for a child.
5. While dad and child are reading/playing, mom is photographed separately (change of image).
6. We get sandwiches and tea - time for a light snack.
7. Going for ice cream for the whole family.
8. We walk in the park and eat ice cream.
Scenario 2. "A romantic walk in the downtown Annapolis", photo session time - 1 hour:

1. Meeting with a photographer at Maryland State House.
2. Walking around the Hammond-Harwood House - museum, or (St.John's College) hugging.
3. We go to a "1845 Coffee" cafe for cappuccino and croissant.
4. We sit down on the steps of the Naval Academy drink coffee and have a snack.
5. We shoot each other on the camera against the background of the alley.
6. We go to the Historic London Town, examine the "lost town" of London with native plants and exotic species. Etc.
